I’m on day 20-something of my dairy and soy free diet. I’ve lost track because I think I’ll be continuing this diet for a while. You can read all about why in my dairy-free posts.
A friend of mine asked for a list of my favorite foods so I thought I’d post it here.
I love So Delicious coconut milk (vanilla flavored is great), coffee creamer, yogurt, ice cream and ice cream bars. I’ve found it at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Target and even Jewel (ice cream only). Warning: READ LABELS! Some So Delicious products contain soy.
I’ve tried Blue Diamond and 365 almond milk but I much prefer coconut milk.
Friends have recommended Daiya cheese, Earth Balance dairy and soy free butter, Enjoy Life cookies, Rudi’s Multigrain bread (a lot of bread contains soy), coconut oil (to replace butter, especially while cooking) and Rice Dream strawberry ice cream. You can find most of these at Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s.
I also peruse the “vegan” and “gluten free” sections of stores for dairy and soy free products.
What I usually eat for…
Breakfast: fried eggs (for protein) or Kashi cereal with coconut milk; coffee with coconut creamer; fresh orange juice; an apple or banana if I’m rushing out the door.
Lunch: almond or sunflower nut butter on toast, hummus, salad, fresh fruit, leftover meat and veggies from the night before.
Dinner: meat, potatoes and veggies; I love chicken thighs, bone-in chicken breasts and pork chops. I season them with salt, pepper, olive oil and lemon juice. In the winter I roast lots of potatoes and veggies with olive oil, salt and pepper. I also make rice in a rice maker and mix in some olive oil and fresh herbs at the end.
An additional note: While food shopping today, I noticed that EVERYTHING has soy in it. Pay attention to labels. They usually say “Contains soy or wheat or milk.” I think eating “whole” foods and cooking from scratch is your best route when you have a dietary restriction. Besides, it’s healthier and cheaper too!
YOUR HELP! If you’re dairy and/or soy free, will you share your favorite brands and foods in the comments?

I agree with all the foods that you mentioned. MimicCreme is also a diary free, soy-free alternative for cream type uses.
I have been dairy/soy/nut free for my son for 100 days! I have been on the total elimination diet for 4 weeks.(I mainly cut out wheat) you can do it! I read all labels! It stinks we can’t even enjoy a soda or stick of gumming not knowing if the preservatives are soy based.
As far as favorite foods, I have so many!! From jewel: enjoy life brand is delicious! I love their candy bars and brownie cookies. I also buy kettle brand chips and POP chips…mmm. Also jewel has an organic brand called wild harvest. You can buy their pasta sauce, salsa, corn chips, juices, wheat thins, and I even made chili with their canned goods. No natural flavors or preservatives! In the frozen department the rice dreams ice cream is yummy too.
From trader joes: they actually make an organic bread that is sooooo good(if your not
wheat free). They also have wheat thins! I also found a taco seasoning that was good to make! Read labels like you said!
From Walmart: the earths balance soy free butter. It’s so good!
An online place I order from if you are wheat free: http://www.samisbakery.com. I get there bread, bagels, pita chips, and buns. (made with millet flour and flax seed)
Just some of my favorites!
One more thing I just discovered! Subway, chipotle, and Applebee’s have online menus with allergic information!
