About
My hope is that Big City Belly shares with expecting and new moms the amazing resources that Chicago has to offer them as they navigate and celebrate their journey of parenthood. Big City Belly also serves as my personal blog.

My name is Kate. I live in Chicago with my husband, two children and two fat cats, and I loved (almost) every minute of being pregnant. I started this blog to celebrate the joys of pregnancy and parenthood.
When I think about who I really am, here’s what I think of – my love of Joni Mitchell, eggplant and, most of all, journalism. I studied English/Journalism in college and worked as a print reporter for several years in Ohio and Illinois. Every Sunday morning for a few years I began my day at the Cook County morgue to learn who died the day before and determine whether we should write about them. It was a strange way to start the week.
After working for three newspapers, I became a public relations and marketing consultant. I worked for agencies in Chicago and Washington, D.C., then opened my own consultancy, which you can find here.
I love to ask questions. I am infinitely curious. I’ll ask you what you ate for breakfast, how it tasted, where you bought it or if you made it and if you’d eat it again. I’m not sure what I get out of asking questions, but I can’t get enough of it. I love to research, too, and share with others what I find.
I was meant to be a mother. Having a baby is the most important thing I’ve ever done. People always told me it would be and I always believed them. Combining my two passions – parenthood and journalism – was a no brainer. I hope on this blog you’ll learn about interesting resources and services that exist in and outside of Chicago, an amazing city in which to raise children.
